People treasure their belongings, especially on valuables and precious items and memorabilia which are important to them. Safes and lock boxes are special storage space that has been developed so that people can protect these items from theft, fire and/or water. One of the question that have often cross people minds or Guarda have heard asking was “Should I have one safe or two safes at home?” Below we give our opinion on the matter.
Have at least one
In our opinion, one should have at least one safe at home. This not only provide the protection you need for your valuables and important belongings but help you to organize important items so that they don’t get misplaced because they are being stored in different drawers and cupboards or hidden in shirts and clothing.
Consider its use frequency and accessibility
If items that you put in the safe are going to be needed frequently, the safe should be placed in an area when it is easy to get to. Alternatively, if the items are not needed regularly, then the safe can be placed in a more hidden location, although still easy to locate. Having more than one safe would allow you to split the safe storage. One could have one which they have items that are frequently visited and one which is more for safe keeping items.
Buy one good one instead of two cheap ones
If you are budget constraint to get two safes, choose to buy one good safe that provide certified protection such as UL instead of splitting the tight budget up and buying two cheaper safes. Remember that a safe is used to protect important belongings and see it as an investment that will pay for itself rather than as an expense.
Make sure at least one is fireproof
When you can choose to have more than one safe, then have at least one safe that is a fireproof safe box. This safe will provide the much needed protection against damage from fire for those important documents and identification. Fireproof safe can also have the adequate protection needed against unauthorized access. If you can only have one, we would also suggest that you get a safe that is fireproof unless you have very particular high security storage needs for your theft protection.
Everyone has different considerations when it comes to getting a safe and our recommendation is that one should have at least a safe at home and preferably fireproof if you are storing some important documents or identifications.
